Showerthought: my 28 inch screed sat broken in the truck for 5 weeks because I refused to weld a cracked bracket
Everyone in the crew said just tack weld the bracket and keep pouring, so I fought them on it for a solid 5 weeks. The crack kept spreading every time the screed flexed on a 12 foot pour, and on the third job it finally snapped at the bolt hole while we were floating a driveway in Mesa. I ended up burning 6 hours on a Saturday fabricating a new bracket out of 3/8 plate instead of the 20 minute weld everyone wanted. Turns out the weld would have held fine. We lost maybe $400 in downtime chasing my stubbornness. Anyone else ever dig their heels in on a repair and end up way behind?
