Thought those new magnesium floats were just hype until I used one on a garage slab in Tempe last month.

The boss handed me one and said 'just try it,' and the finish came out way smoother with half the effort. Anyone else switch over to magnesium and notice a real difference?

Totally get the initial doubt, they do look pretty similar to the old ones. That lighter weight makes a huge difference by the end of the day, less arm fatigue for sure. The key is breaking them in right, a quick pass over some rough concrete first. Once you do that, they really do pull a nicer finish with less back and forth.

Yeah, that break-in trick saved me from a whole day of fighting with a new float last week.

Ever have one of those days where the float just feels like it's dragging through wet sand? That's what the old steel ones felt like after a few hours. The magnesium ones cut through so much easier, especially on bigger pours. I keep a separate one just for breaking in on a scrap piece, makes it glide right from the start. Boss thought I was crazy buying two, but he shut up after seeing the finish on the next job.
