Told a young finisher he was wrong about keeping the slump at 4 inches, and now I owe him lunch
Honestly I have been finishing concrete for 19 years and I always said 4 inch slump or you are begging for cracks. Last Tuesday we poured a 40 by 60 slab for a shop in Greeley and the mix came out at 5.5. I argued with the batch guy, he said just try it. That slab floated out smoother than anything I have done in a year, almost no bleed water to chase, and we got the power trowel on it an hour sooner. The kid on my crew had been telling me this for 6 months. So now I am the guy buying tacos. Has anyone else switched their slump thinking after a pour that surprised them?
