Washed my forms with diesel for 8 years, turns out it was ruining my cure

I used to spray my plywood forms down with diesel fuel before every pour, thought I was being slick preventing sticking and rust. Last fall a DOT inspector in Spokane pointed at the blotchy spots on a wall I'd just stripped and said the diesel was eating the form release and killing my surface finish. Anyone else spend a decade doing a cleanup shortcut that was actually causing the problem, and what finally tipped you off?

That DOT guy saved you years of headaches, diesel eats the resin right outta the wood.
