A cab driver in Detroit made me question the whole moon landing thing
Last Tuesday I got stuck in traffic on I-94 and my cabbie said the moon landing was filmed in a Nevada studio. He wasn't shouting, just calm, and he pointed out how the shadows in the photos go different ways. It hit different because he didn't sell it, he just laid it out and shut up. I went home and spent 4 hours on NASA's own image archive trying to prove him wrong. Has anyone else had a random stranger's quiet take crack something you never doubted?

funny thing is nobody ever talks about the radio transmissions, not the famous ones but the raw audio from the command module during the actual descent. you can find it on the NASA site and there's this stretch where Armstrong's heart rate is like 150 beats a minute, but his voice is completely steady, no strain at all. that's really hard to fake because even trained actors slip under pressure, and this was live, no retakes. plus the Soviet Union tracked that signal independently and they had zero reason to back up a US lie. they would've screamed it from every rooftop if they caught even a hint of fakery. so even if the shadows are weird, that's probably just lighting and terrain doing stuff, not a studio. the cabbie got you thinking though and that's kind of the fun part, digging into it yourself.
