Finally cracked why my neighbor's security camera kept missing motion at night

Took me three months of swapping batteries and repositioning the thing before I realized the IR lights were reflecting off a cheap bird feeder he hung right below it... has anyone else dealt with a simple object totally messing with motion sensors?

Blame the sensor for getting confused by anything shiny or moving. Ngl, I had a car mirror reflecting light and making my camera go off every five minutes for a week. @vera_lewis2 probably saw something similar with other small objects near her setup.

Moved my feeder and @susanb34 is right about spiders too.

Read a thing just last week about how spiderwebs can mess with outdoor motion detectors too. Caught some light weird or something and the sensor thinks it's a person or whatever. Your bird feeder story makes total sense now that you say it. Seems like these sensors pick up on all kinds of stuff we don't even think about.
