Hot take: I used to laugh at the whole 'birds aren't real' thing...

Then I saw a drone that looked exactly like a pigeon up close in Chicago last fall, wires and everything. It made me wonder what else we just accept without looking. Anyone else seen something that made a joke theory seem a little too real?

Read an article about how some streetlights have these tiny cameras now, the kind you'd never notice unless you were looking for them. It was talking about a pilot program in a few cities to track traffic patterns. Makes you look at every lamppost a bit differently after that.

That line about looking at every lamppost differently really hits home, Jake. I noticed a few in my own town last year. If you're worried, check your local city council meeting notes online. They often list where these pilot programs are, and you can usually request that data stay anonymous. It's the not knowing that gets to you.

But they help find missing people.

Disagree with that take @jakejones. Those cameras don't just find missing people. They build permanent records of everyone's movements. Every trip to the store, every walk late at night. Once that data exists, it doesn't go away. Someone's always got access.
