My neighbor in Detroit told me I was sanding my drywall patches wrong for years

He said I should use a damp sponge instead of sandpaper to smooth the compound, and it cuts the dust down to almost nothing. Has anyone else tried this method over the traditional sanding block?

Two minutes in and I already had sponge bits stuck to my ceiling fan. But hey, at least the walls got a good scrub too.

Oh man, so did you use a regular kitchen sponge or one of those specialized drywall sponges? I feel like the texture might make a big difference there.
