Picked a $30 Amazon EDC bag over a $200 Maxpedition one
Needed a go-bag for the trunk after reading about supply chain disruptions. Grabbed a no-name tactical sling for $30 instead of dropping cash on a branded one. Three months in and the zipper is already janky - anyone else cheap out on something that mattered?

Hear you on the zipper thing. Cheap bags usually cheap out on the small stuff like zipper teeth and stitching. My buddy bought a $40 "tactical" backpack from some random brand and the shoulder strap stitching popped in two months. You can sometimes upgrade the zipper pull or wax the teeth to keep it running smoother, but once the teeth themselves start skipping, it's toast. Did you check if the bag has a warranty or if the seller offers replacements for stuff like that?

Is a slightly janky zipper after three months really the end of the world though? In my experience, you usually get what you pay for, but a $30 bag that mostly works for a while isn't a total loss. I'd say wax the zipper and see how much longer it holds up before writing the whole thing off.

Ngl I kinda gotta push back on this one @west.richard. Three months is nothing for something that's supposed to live in your trunk and get used maybe once a week. I had a cheap bag where the zipper felt fine at first but then started catching on the fabric lining after a month, and by month three I was fighting it every time. Once the teeth start skipping you're basically done, wax isn't gonna fix bent metal. A $30 bag that fails in a quarter of a year isn't a good deal, it's just delayed disappointment. You end up either dealing with the hassle or buying another one, and now you've spent $60 on two crappy bags instead of one solid one.
