Showerthought: picking between a tinfoil hat group and a pure skeptic forum

Last month I had to decide whether to join a local meetup that thinks every weather event is government controlled or a subreddit that calls anyone with a theory brainwashed. I went with the skeptic group first cause they seemed more logical, but after 2 weeks of them shutting down every discussion with "prove it or shut up" I felt like I couldn't actually talk about anything. Has anyone else found a middle ground community that actually lets you explore ideas without either side yelling at you?

Oh man I totally get what you mean. It's like both sides are just as bad as each other but in totally opposite ways. I found a Discord server that calls itself "critical but curious" and it's been pretty good. They let you bring up weird stuff but expect you to also look at it from all angles without just shutting you down or going full conspiracy. What kind of topics were you trying to explore over there?

Did that server actually let you bring up stuff like the more uncomfortable angles too, or did they have certain lines they wouldn't let you cross?
