Spent 20 minutes listening to a guy at the hardware store rant about GPS tracking in delivery vans
I was picking up some paint samples last Saturday and this older driver just started venting to me about how his company's GPS system logs every single stop light he hits. He claimed it's not for efficiency, but to track his personal schedule and habits. Has anyone here actually dug into what those commercial GPS units really collect beyond just location?

The real question is what data do these systems keep and for how long lol. Like sure, the GPS logs your route in real time, but does it store your speed, hard braking events, or even how long you sat at a particular address that wasn't a delivery stop? That's where it gets creepy, because a smart company could figure out your morning coffee spot, your kid's school pickup time, even which doctor's office you visit in secret. Most drivers just see the tracking and assume it's for routing, but those units are basically black boxes with a cellular connection. Have you ever looked up the privacy policy for whatever brand the company uses?

Man, that hit home... I never even thought about them tracking how long I sit somewhere non-delivery related. They'd know exactly which coffee shop I hit every morning and how long I'm there, that's wild. And the doctor's office thing is legit creepy, like imagine them seeing a pattern of you visiting a specialist every Thursday for months. Those things are definitely black boxes, I tried to look up the privacy policy for the brand my company uses and it was like 50 pages of legal jargon. Honestly feels like we're just driving around with corporate spies in the cab with us...

Also worth thinking about how that data could get subpoenaed if there's ever a lawsuit or divorce situation involving the driver. Like imagine your spouse's lawyer getting access to months of GPS logs showing every late night or weekend detour you made.
