A vendor's comment on my drone scans made me rethink everything
I run drone LiDAR for progress tracking on a 40 acre site outside Austin. For months I was flying tight grid patterns, tons of overlap, thinking more data meant better accuracy. Last month a surveyor I sub out to said "your point clouds look great but they're useless for cut/fill if you don't ground truth them every week." He was right, I was relying on the software's built-in corrections and skipping the physical checkpoints. Now I set 8 steel pins and verify with a total station every Friday, takes 2 hours but the model matches reality now. Anyone else get blindsided by feedback that made their workflow slower but way more reliable?
