Watched a 60 unit apartment job in Reno go from 14 day floors to 4 day floors in 8 weeks
So I've been doing concrete formwork for about 11 years and I got put on this 60 unit apartment project in Reno back in March. First two floors took us 14 days per floor, total mess, guy running the pump was new and we were still doing all our layout with string lines and a laser level that kept drifting. Then the GC brought in a layout robot, one of those Trimble ones, and paired it with a new pump operator who'd been doing it 20 years in Phoenix. By floor 4 we were at 9 days, and by floor 6 we hit 4 days per floor. Same crew, same mix design, same weather basically. The robot alone cut layout from a full day to about 90 minutes, and the new pump guy had us pouring 180 yards in under 5 hours. I was pretty skeptical when they first rolled that thing out, thought it was a gimmick for the office guys to look good on paper. Now I'm trying to get my own company to buy one and honestly the payback math is not even close. Curious if anyone else has run one of these on a mid rise and how long it took before your crew actually trusted it.
