A subscriber asked me to edit 3 minutes of footage for $15, still thinking about it
Last Tuesday I got a message from a guy who said he liked my editing style and needed a 3 minute video trimmed and color corrected for a work presentation. He offered $15 flat. I told him that's about an hour of work minimum for me and usually I'd quote $50. He said he didn't have the budget but really liked my channel's look. I ended up doing it for free just to see what the project was. The footage was a funeral home tour he filmed on his phone. There was a moment where he paused outside the chapel and said "my dad's ashes are in there, I wanted this to be a good send off for him." I finished it in 45 minutes and sent it over. He cried on the call the next day. Haven't heard from him since, but I'm not bothered. Has anyone else done a job for way below your rate and ended up glad you said yes? Or was I just an idiot?

Oh man, that story got me right in the chest. I did something similar last year for a local shop owner who needed a 30 second ad but only had $20. Turned out his wife was battling cancer and he wanted to surprise her with a video of their customers sending love. Spent two evenings on it, way more than the money was worth, but seeing her face when he showed her on his phone was worth everything. Sometimes the payback is just knowing you helped someone when it really counted, you know?
