Can we talk about how I used to edit videos all wrong?

Honestly, I used to spend like 6 hours cutting together my gaming clips with free software and no plan. I'd just dump all my footage into the timeline and start chopping away, and it always turned out messy and boring. Last spring, a buddy who does Twitch streams told me to storyboard first, even if it's just a sticky note with points. Now I spend 20 minutes writing down the key moments before I touch anything. It saves me at least 2 hours per video and the final cuts actually make sense. Ngl, I was stubborn about it for months but now I feel dumb for not switching sooner. Has anyone else gone from winging it to planning first and seen a big difference?

Mark's got a point @mark436, I'm still fighting the urge to yeet myself into the timeline like a headless chicken every time I open Premiere. Pretty sure my brain thinks planning is a form of betrayal.

@mark436 yeah that's the thing that gets me, how long did it take before planning actually felt natural and not like you were fighting your own instincts? I keep telling myself to do it but then I just open the software anyway.

Used to do the exact same thing with my old gaming montages, just throwing clips together and hoping something stuck. Once I started jotting down three or four key plays before opening my editor, everything got way cleaner and way faster. Did it take you a while to break the habit of just jumping in blind?
