Just saw a stat that blew my mind about TikTok reach

I was digging into my analytics last night after a slow week and stumbled on a fact that stopped me cold. Apparently the average TikTok video only gets seen by about 20% of your followers. I found this on a creator breakdown thread in the Hootsuite blog. That explains why my last 3 posts barely hit 200 views despite having 2k followers. Has anyone else noticed their follower count tanking their reach numbers like this?

Your engagement rate matters more than follower count in my experience.

Honestly, that makes sense but how are you actually measuring engagement rate? Like are you counting saves and shares the same as comments and likes? Tbh I've seen accounts with high likes but zero actual conversation happening in the replies.

Only thing nobody's brought up is how the For You page completely ignores follower count. I've got 1.8k followers but my highest viewed video came from people who don't follow me, 12k views off a random kitchen hack I filmed on a whim. Your followers might just not be the audience for the stuff you're posting now, the algorithm sees that and shows it to nobody.
