Pulled 1,000 subs in a month and I still have no clue what I did right

I hit 1,000 subscribers on my channel last week after grinding for three years, but the weird part is that 900 of them came in the last 30 days. I uploaded a random video about my failed attempt to build a birdhouse in my backyard in Austin, Texas, and it just blew up overnight. No editing tricks or fancy thumbnails, just me talking for 15 minutes and a pile of crooked wood. Has anyone else had a quiet channel suddenly explode like that with no clear reason?

Oh man, so something like this happened to a buddy of mine. He had this tiny little channel where he just filmed himself sharpening old rusty tools he found at flea markets. For like two years, he got maybe 50 views a video. Then one day he posted a video where he dropped a chisel on his foot and just kept talking while hopping around. Nothing special about the editing, just him swearing and holding his foot. That video did like 400,000 views out of nowhere. To this day he still can't figure out why that one took off and none of his others did. The algorithm is just weird like that sometimes, honestly.

Same kind of thing happened with my channel actually. I do reviews of old fishing lures, real niche stuff, and I had maybe 200 subscribers after two years of steady uploading. Then I posted a video where I accidentally knocked over a shelf of lures and spent ten minutes just picking them up and talking about each one. That video has over 80,000 views now and I gained about 600 subscribers from it alone. The thing is, my other videos are way more polished and have better lighting and editing. That one was just me frustrated on a Sunday afternoon. It really does feel like the algorithm just rolls dice sometimes and picks one video to push to everyone.

Actually the thing nobody's talking about is the inflection point thing. 900 subs in 30 days after 3 years of grinding means your channel crossed some invisible threshold in YouTube's system where it started recommending your videos to completely new audiences, not just your existing small subscriber base. The birdhouse fail video was just the one that happened to be up when that switch flipped.
