Visited a local indie studio in Austin and saw how they film their cooking content

I popped into this small studio space off South Congress last week that a friend rents for her food channel. The whole setup was so bare bones, just two softbox lights and a cheap table from IKEA with a cloth over it. But the way she moved around that tiny kitchen, talking to the camera like a real person, it made me realize how much overproduction we think we need. Has anyone else checked out a smaller creator's setup and felt like they were overcomplicating their own gear?

my buddy runs a tiny BBQ channel out of his garage in Round Rock. he's got like one ring light and films on his phone propped on a stack of cookbooks. the audio is kinda rough but honestly his brisket videos feel way more real than those glossy studio ones with like 4 cameras and a sound booth. made me realize i was way too worried about having perfect gear when the real thing is just showing up and being yourself.

Yeah I was totally guilty of thinking you needed all the fancy gear until I saw how little it actually matters.
