Warning: Spent $200 on a fancy microphone and it made my videos worse

I shelled out $200 on a condenser mic last month because everyone said you need good audio. Problem is my room echoes like crazy and this thing picks up my cat sneezing from two rooms away. My old $40 headset mic actually sounded better because it blocked out background noise. Now I gotta buy foam panels and figure out sound treatment which is another $50 at least. Plus I spent three evenings editing out hisses and pops from the raw audio. Has anyone else bought expensive gear that backfired on them?

Tbh that cat sneezing detail got me. I can just picture you sitting there trying to record and hearing a faint little 'achoo' from across the house coming through crystal clear. Ngl that's kind of hilarious in a painful way.

Honestly, same thing happened to me with a cheap studio mic. Regretted it instantly.
