A gardener told me to stop babying my plants and it saved my vegetable patch

Last spring I was killing everything I planted, from tomatoes to peppers, and I was out there watering and fussing every single day. This old guy at the community garden asked what I was doing and I told him, and he just laughed and said 'you're loving them to death, stop watering so much and let them struggle a bit.' I cut back to watering only when the soil was dry two inches down, and within three weeks my plants looked healthier than ever. Ended up with 40 pounds of tomatoes from just six plants by August. Anyone else had someone call them out on overdoing it with something simple?

My buddy Mike did that with his roses and they came back twice as big.

Man, that's awesome to hear! I did the same thing with my tomato plants last summer and couldn't believe how much healthier they looked. A good hard prune and some compost really does the trick.

And here I thought pruning was just an excuse to buy more gardening gloves.
