Appreciation post for the $80 bread machine I bought used in 2017

I picked up this beat-up Zojirushi at a garage sale in Austin for 80 bucks. At the time I thought it was just a gimmick, like a fancy way to make dense bricks of bread. But six years later that thing has paid for itself a dozen times over. The trick is you gotta use it for the dough cycle only, then bake in a real pan in the oven. That step alone saved me from spending like 6 bucks a loaf at the bakery every week. I've made pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, even pretzel bites with it. Has anyone else found a cheap kitchen gadget that just kept delivering way past its expected life?

I used to think bread machines were for people with too much counter space and not enough sense. My wife brought home a thrifted one years ago and I rolled my eyes so hard. Then I realized she was using it for dough like you mentioned and suddenly I got it. That thing changed our whole approach to homemade pizza and dinner rolls. It's not about the bread it bakes, it's about the dough it makes for you. Still running eight years later and I will never talk trash about it again.

@avery_flores17 sounds like you went from bread machine hater to dough convert in record time...

I mean, it's cool that you guys are so into your bread machines and all, but is it really that deep? I used one for like two months and got bored of cleaning the paddle and finding flour in weird places. Maybe it's just a tool that does one thing fine, not some life-changing appliance.
