Guy at the junk yard changed my mind about old trucks

I used to think anything over 150k miles was basically dead and not worth touching. Then I was at Pull-A-Part in Houston last month and this old dude was pulling a transmission out of a 94 F-150 with 280k on the clock. He said those old 300 straight sixes will run forever if you just change the oil and don't rev the hell out of them. Made me realize I was throwing away money on newer trucks with all the electronics that crap out. Anybody else learn to stop being scared of high mileage?

My buddy bought one of those old F-150s with 260k and it's still his daily driver five years later.

That 300 straight six is the real deal. My neighbor's got a 95 F-150 with 320k on it and the only thing he's done besides oil changes is replace the water pump once. I've seen people give up on those 7.3 Powerstrokes at 200k too and that's just getting broken in really. The key is checking for rust around the bed mounts and cab corners, because the engine will outlive the body if you're not careful. On the other side, all those new trucks with cylinder deactivation and ten speed transmissions will nickel and dime you to death after 100k.

All those old trucks are just money pits waiting to rust out on you.
