My mom's 3-word rule about buying clothes saved me $400 in 6 months

Last January I was complaining to my mom about how I never had anything to wear even though my closet was full. She looked at me and said 'buy less, choose better.' At first I thought it was just some generic mom wisdom. But I actually tried it for 6 months starting in February. I stopped buying cheap fast fashion stuff and started saving up for one or two quality pieces each month. The weird thing is I genuinely spend less now because I'm not constantly replacing things that fall apart after 3 washes. Has anyone else tried a simple rule like that and seen their spending change in an unexpected way?

Ngl, your mom's rule hits hard, @sandra_bennett59. I learned that lesson with a cheap leather jacket that turned into a weird stiff mess after one rainy walk. Honest mistake, but it stung. That three-word rule actually makes so much sense when you think about it. I bet you saved way more than just money avoiding those dry clean disasters. Good call sharing that, it's the kind of simple advice people need to hear more often.

Saw a similar take in a buying guide once, they said if the care tag has more than two symbols just walk away. Makes sense with that three word rule. Your mom knew what was up.

My mom's rule was "if you can't wash it, don't buy it." Saved me from three dry clean only disasters and one tragic sequin top. Learned the hard way that hand-washing glitter doesn't end well.
