Overheard a random guy at a coffee shop say something that stuck with me

I was sitting at a coffee shop in Denver last week, half-listening to two guys talk about work. One of them said, 'Most people quit right before the breakthrough, not because they're tired, but because they don't believe it's coming.' That hit me hard because I've been running my own small handyman biz for about 2 years now, and I've almost quit twice when things got slow. The guy wasn't even talking to me, but I've been thinking about that line every day since. It made me realize I quit on things way too fast, like that time I gave up on learning basic electrical work after one bad outlet job. Now I'm sticking with it longer on tough tasks, even when it feels pointless. Has anyone else had a random overheard comment change how they approach their work?

That line stuck with me too man, I've been there. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just outlast the doubt.

Did a buddy of yours quit a business right before it took off too?

Outlast the doubt" - I mean, sure, that sounds noble, but what if the doubt was right? I knew a guy who stuck with a dying business for 3 years because he was told to "outlast," and he just dug himself into debt while the smarter people bailed early. Not every sticking point is a breakthrough, @evan_green52, sometimes it's just a slow trainwreck. The quitters might have seen something you didn't.
