Question about a chat I had with my barista that flipped a switch

I was grabbing coffee in Denver last month and mentioned feeling stuck in my job, and the barista, Mia, just said 'What if you're not stuck, you're just comfortable?' I found it on a napkin in my pocket yesterday and it hit different. Has a simple question from a stranger ever shifted your whole view on something?

Remember reading that the best advice often comes from people who don't know your whole story. They just see the one piece you're showing. That barista saw a person tired of their job, not your ten year career path. The bus stop guy heard a plan that sounded safe. Sometimes we need that outside glance to see the obvious thing we're missing.

That "outside glance" idea from dakota415 is exactly it. I see this all the time with my friends, where they'll be going in circles about a problem and I'll say one simple thing that seems obvious to me. It's because I'm not in the weeds with them. We get so used to our own stories that we can't see the plot holes, but a stranger just reads the page in front of them. It's like we're all walking around giving free therapy to each other without even knowing it.

Heard that exact thing from a stranger at the hardware store last week, told me I was overthinking a leak I'd been chasing for days.

That "just comfortable" line is a killer. I had a guy at a bus stop tell me my big plan sounded like a "fancy way to stay put." He was talking about the weather, but it felt like he saw right through me. It's wild how a few words from someone with zero stake in your life can cut through all your own noise. Makes you wonder how many answers we get from places we never think to look.
