Shoutout to my barber who told me I was overthinking my career change

I was going back and forth for weeks about leaving my IT job to start a landscaping business. My barber Mike just looked at me and said, 'You already know what you want, you're just scared of losing the paycheck.' He was right. I quit two days later and honestly the first $500 I made trimming hedges felt way better than any salary I ever earned. Has anyone else had a random person cut through all your excuses like that?

23 hedges in my first week and I knew Mike was onto something. @wood.eric it's crazy how someone outside your usual circle can see right through the fear. My neighbor did the same for me when I was stuck on a side project - she just said "you've been talking about this for six months, what's one more thing you need to know?" and it snapped me out of it. Sometimes the push comes from the most random place and you just gotta grab it.

Read an article online about how people who change careers based on random advice from strangers often end up happier than the ones who plan everything out for years. Something about trusting your gut over spreadsheets I guess. Makes sense though because your brain has already done the math a hundred times and keeps coming up with excuses. That neighbor or barber doesn't know all your doubts so they just see the obvious path. Sometimes the dumbest sounding advice is the one that actually sticks.
