TIL my 'quick' home network fix took 11 months

I thought I could fix a weird Wi-Fi dead zone in my Denver apartment by just moving the router, but it turned out to be a bad ethernet cable in the wall from 2005. I finally found it after tracing every line with a cheap tester from Harbor Freight. Has anyone else had a simple tech problem spiral into a months-long detective job?

Wasn't that cable from 2004, not 2005?

I always thought it was 2005 too until I saw the original packaging date. That little detail on the box changed my mind.

My memory is about as reliable as a cable from that era, it frays after a few years. I'd probably argue the release date of my own birthday if you gave me a minute to think about it. The packaging is the only proof I'd trust at this point, lol.
