Tried to fix my garage door opener myself and it took 3 full weekends

I thought replacing a circuit board on a 2015 Chamberlain opener would be a 2 hour job. Ended up fighting with misaligned sensors and a bad wiring diagram from the manufacturer. After 18 hours of YouTube and trips to Home Depot, I found one broken wire inside the wall that I missed. Has anyone else spent way longer on a "simple" Home Depot fix than they want to admit?

Honestly, when I read "one broken wire inside the wall" my jaw actually dropped. That is the kind of detail that makes me want to throw my tools across the garage. @williams.sage is spot on about it always being the dumb little thing, but a wire inside the wall is next level. You probably walked past that spot a dozen times and had no clue. I once spent a whole Sunday trying to get a smart thermostat to connect to my WiFi, and it turned out my phone was just on airplane mode. Took me three hours once trying to figure out why my bathroom faucet wouldn't stop dripping, turns out I put the little rubber washer in backwards. Swear I checked it like four times before I realized, @williams.sage you're totally right about that pattern, it's always the dumb little things that get you. Flat out refused to believe it could be that simple.

Literally just spent a Saturday replacing a faucet cartridge that turned out I didn't even need to replace because the shutoff valve under the sink was only halfway open. Felt like I should have to turn in my homeowner card after that one. The dumb little details really do have a way of making you feel like you've never picked up a tool in your life.
