Two weeks of rain ruined my whole garden plan then a neighbor just showed up with a trowel
My tomatoes were rotting on the vine after 14 straight days of wet in Portland, and I was ready to give up on the whole raised bed thing. She told me to cut back the wet leaves and add a layer of straw, and now I've got 8 pounds of fruit ripening on the counter. Has anyone else had a random neighbor fix a gardening disaster with one piece of advice?

Right, she didn't exactly drop some forbidden gardening knowledge on you. Eight pounds is a win, not a disaster. But hey, sometimes you just need someone to walk over and say the obvious thing while you're staring at a sad, wet plant.

Hold on, is eight pounds of tomatoes really a gardening disaster? I mean, you still got fruit, right? Cutting back wet leaves is standard stuff, it's not exactly secret wisdom from the gardening gods. I'd have been more worried if she showed up with a trowel because she was planning to dig up your whole bed.
