Had to choose between going to my grandma's 80th or a work training

Last year I had to pick between my grandma's 80th birthday party in Ohio and a 2 day training my boss pushed hard. I chose the birthday and flew out Friday night. My grandma cried when she saw me, and my cousin told me later she kept asking if I was coming for weeks. That trip cost me about $400 but I still think about her face when I walked in.

Ha, she baked COOKIES not just chit-chatted. Nice.

Oh man, this one hits me right in the feels! I'm pretty sure I would have made the same call you did, even if my boss gave me the stink eye for a month (which she totally would have, not gonna lie). Grandmas are just one of those things you never get back, you know? I still remember skipping a work happy hour to help my grandma bake cookies, and honestly I think that memory is way better than any chit-chat about quarterly goals or whatever. $400 is a small price for a memory like that, even if your wallet cried a little bit at the time.

$400 for a memory that lasts way longer than any paycheck? Worth it every time. Bosses come and go, but grandmas don't.
