Just lost $200 on a storage unit I never really needed
Booked a 5x5 unit at U-Haul on Grand Avenue for 6 months. Thought I'd need it while moving. Ended up just storing old junk I didn't even care about. Anyone else pay for space they barely used?

That stings, I'm sorry. Pretty much everyone I know has a story like that about paying for storage they barely touched. It's like we convince ourselves we need it, then it just sits there collecting dust and eating money.

My friend rented a unit for two years and forgot she had a box of her grandma's china in there...

@jana_jones oh man, that's rough. I actually just read an article last week about how storage units are basically a billion dollar industry built on us forgetting what we put in there. It said something like 1 in 10 people renting a unit hasn't opened it in over a year. Your friend isn't alone in that, but losing grandma's china is a special kind of pain. Hopefully she can still get it out and it wasn't sold at auction or anything. People don't realize how fast those storage places can dump your stuff if you miss a payment.
