Just realized my grandma's 30 year old recipe box has 214 cards in it and I never looked inside until last month
My grandma passed in 2019 and I kept her old wooden recipe box on a shelf in my kitchen, mostly as a thing to look at. Last month the hinge broke and I had to empty it to fix it. I counted 214 index cards, and about 40 of them are in her handwriting while the rest are from neighbors and church friends I never met. One card from a lady named Ruth has a note on the back saying "this one's for the bad days." It's a coffee cake recipe and I made it last Sunday. Sitting at my table eating it, I kept thinking about how this box is the only place these women still talk to each other. Has anyone else gone through a family member's old recipes and found stuff like that?
