Just realized my grandma's kitchen counter was my first memory anchor

I was back at my grandma's house in Portland last weekend for a family thing, and it hit me why that yellow formica countertop with the little gold flecks always feels so familiar. That's literally the first thing I remember seeing from my high chair, around 1985. It's wild how a random pattern on a counter can shape the way I notice details in every kitchen I walk into since. Anybody else got a weird specific object from childhood that still pops up in your brain?

Right, just a countertop, no big deal. Piper's buddy probably thought the same thing until he was suddenly shopping for a new slab after a week. It's like saying "it's just a roof" until a tree branch comes through it. Quartz is pretty forgiving but not indestructible, and people forget that the install matters just as much as the material. One bad cut or a heavy pan dropped at the wrong angle and you're back at the tile store. A "just a countertop" mindset is how you end up with a "just a headache" real quick.
