My 8 year old nephew called me out for being scared of the dark last weekend

Held my breath reading that because I’m honestly shocked a kid that young would call someone out like that. Like an 8 year old nephew probably doesn't even fully understand what sarcasm is yet, right? My niece is around that age and she still thinks adults know everything so it's wild he saw through you that fast. What did he actually say to you? I’m picturing him just staring at you with those little kid eyes and saying something super blunt. I’d be completely thrown off if my own nephew pulled that on me.

Oh man, you nailed it. I’m still chuckling because kids that age are either total sponges or straight-up detectives in training. So like, my nephew didn’t just stare at me with those big eyes. He looked me dead in the face after I made some sarcastic joke about his video game skills and said, "You’re not funny, you’re just loud." I literally froze. It was like he saw right through the whole adult act. @fiona_west21, I bet your niece does the same thing but just stores it up for later. Kids that age are watching everything, even when we think they’re zoning out. So when they hit you with that blunt truth, it’s like a sucker punch you never see coming.
