My sister said my strongest memory sounded made up, which made me rethink the whole thing.
She pointed out I was only two, so I probably just remember the family story and not the actual event. Has anyone else had a 'memory' that turned out to be a story you were told?

Oh man, I totally get that. I swore I remembered something from being a baby, but it was just a home video I'd seen a bunch.

Wow, that's such a common thing. I read somewhere that our brains can totally plant a fake memory if we've heard a story enough times. It's wild how our own minds can trick us. Like what @laura_schmidt82 said, seeing a video over and over does the same trick. Makes you question everything you think you know from being really little.

Remember how @laura_schmidt82 mentioned home videos. It gets weirder because sometimes we mix up the story with a photo from that day. My mom told a story about me at the zoo so many times, and we had this one picture, that I was sure I remembered the lion. But I just remembered the picture, not the real thing. It makes you wonder how many of our early memories are just mental copies of stuff we've seen. Our brains are just putting together a slide show from other people's evidence.
