My uncle told me 'never take a job you can't walk away from' and I ignored him for 8 years

Back in 2014 my uncle Bob sat me down at a family bbq and told me that. He worked at a factory in Pittsburgh for 22 years and hated every day of it after year 5. I took a corporate sales job thinking I could tough it out and make good money. After 8 years of pure misery I finally quit last March with nothing lined up. He was 100% right and I wasted almost a decade proving him right. Has anyone else had a relative give dead simple advice that you wish you'd listened to sooner?

Used to think toughing it out was noble but this made me rethink everything honestly.

Dont you kind of wonder what we lost by always pushing through back then? Like was it just a way to ignore our own feelings or did it actually mess with how we handle things now?

Knew a guy in college who kept pushing through a pulled muscle for weeks... ended up needing surgery and couldn't walk right for months after.
