My uncle's old Polaroid made me rethink what I thought I knew about my dad
Last week my uncle pulled out a box of photos from the 80s, and there was one of my dad at a bowling alley in Dayton, holding a trophy with the biggest grin. I always thought he hated bowling because he'd talk about how boring it was whenever mom wanted to watch it on TV. My uncle said he bowled in a league every Thursday for over a decade, and that he only quit after the plant shut down in '92. It hit me that we can know someone our whole life and still only get the version they decided to show us. Has anyone else found out something like this about a parent that completely changed an old memory for you?

My dad kept a box of ticket stubs from every Browns game he went to in the 70s, but he always told me he "never got the whole sports thing." Found out he used to drive four hours to Cleveland every home game with his brother for almost ten years. Your bowling trophy story hit me the same way. People just pick a story to tell and stick with it, even if it's not the real one.
