Tbh I always thought my strongest memory was from when I was five
Honestly, trying to write it down for my therapist in Chicago made me realize I'd actually built the whole scene from a family photo. Ngl, it shook me that my brain just filled in the gaps. Anyone else have a 'memory' that turned out to be totally constructed?

Honestly brains do that all the time, it's just how memory works. People act like it's some huge deal when they find out a memory isn't perfect. It's not like you made up being abused or something, you just misremembered a porch swing. Doesn't seem like a therapy-level crisis to me.

Totally get that. I had this vivid "memory" of falling off my grandpa's porch swing, but my mom said we never even HAD a porch swing at that house. My brain just made up the whole dang scene from hearing a story once. It's wild what our minds can do.
