That farm stand out near Lancaster where I first saw the honor system pricing debated
I stopped at a random produce stand off Route 30 last fall, just a table with peppers and tomatoes under a tarp. Nobody was around, just a coffee can with a sign saying $3 a bag. It got me thinking about whether we trust people too much or not enough with these honor systems. My mom always said you round up, pay extra if you can, but my buddy argues that's how prices creep up and only hurts people who can't afford it. I stood there for like five minutes trying to decide if I should leave $4 or just the $3 exact change. Which side do you lean on when there's no one watching and the price is just a suggestion?

my friend tara was at a farm stand last summer and left a fiver for a bunch of corn. she thought she was being generous but then the farmer ran out and yelled at her for overpaying and messing up his pricing system. apparently people going above just makes everyone else feel guilty.

Do you think the farmer in that story was more bothered about the extra dollar or about losing control of how people see his prices?
