That time I overheard my 7 year old niece repeat something I said about my dad

That moment hit me hard because I didn't even remember saying it, but she remembered it perfectly. It made me wonder what else I've casually said around kids that they're carrying around like core memories. Has anyone else had a kid repeat something you said that made you realize you gotta watch your mouth more?

Oh man, my 8 year old nephew did the same thing to me last month. I was venting to my sister about how my boss is a total control freak who micromanages every little thing, and I said something like "he needs to get a life." Then at family dinner, my nephew pipes up and says "Uncle Dave needs to get a life, right mom?" I was mortified. Kids are like little tape recorders with no filter. It made me realize I gotta save the venting for when they're out of earshot, because they'll throw it back at you at the worst possible moments. I still cringe thinking about it lol.

Yeah that's not quite right though, kids repeat everything.

Yeah my buddy's kid once yelled "mommy drinks the angry juice" during a play date because she said it once after a rough day. Little dude even did the hand gesture she made which made it so much worse. Now I'm paranoid about saying anything even slightly off around any kid under 10.
