That week my apartment flooded from a fishtank above me

I mean it started on a Tuesday when water started dripping through my kitchen light fixture in San Diego. Landlord came up and found the guy upstairs had a 55-gallon tank that just cracked down the middle. The whole week was a mess of fans and insurance calls but honestly I still check my ceiling every time I hear a drip. Has anyone else had a weird apartment disaster that turned into a core memory?

My ceiling paranoia is real too but honestly the worst part is how casual everyone acts about massive water damage like it's just part of living in apartments.

3 different landlords in 5 years and they all gave me the same "that's just condensation" gaslighting when I sent them pics of literal brown water dripping down my walls. It's wild how they act like you're the crazy one for not wanting black mold spores floating around your bedroom. I started taping my phone flashlight to the ceiling at night just to watch for new drip patterns before they turn into full ceiling collapses.

Does your landlord actually fix anything when you report it or do they just say "that's normal settling"? I used to think people were overreacting about water stains until I had a ceiling collapse in my bathroom last year and suddenly the maintenance guy was way less casual about it. Take this how you want but I've learned to document everything with photos and dates now, just in case.
