The day I saw my childhood bedroom get torn down for a strip mall
Drove by my old house on Sycamore Street last week and it was just... gone. Bulldozer had already knocked down everything, even the big oak tree in the backyard where I used to climb. My mom planted that tree the year I was born, 1987. Makes me wonder what memories we're all just paving over without thinking. Has anyone else gone back to a place from when you were a kid and found it completely wiped out?

Did you take any keepsakes from the house before it was gone?

Keepsakes are just clutter with a story attached. Grabs13 is right - people act like a broken lamp has sentimental value but it's really just a broken lamp.

Keepsakes are kind of overrated honestly. People act like a dusty old vase or a worn-out book holds some magic from the past, but it's just stuff. My aunt saved all these trinkets from her childhood home - pieces of wallpaper, a chipped teacup - and they just sit in a box in her garage collecting dust. The real memory is in the people, not in some ceramic frog that was on the porch. Let the past go and make room for new things... that's my take on it anyway.
