The 'empty' bee box that stung me 14 times in Phoenix
Checked my backyard hive last spring, thought it was empty so I didn't suit up. Lifted the lid and a whole swarm came out hot, got stung on my neck, arms, and once right on the eyelid. Learned the hard way that bees stay quiet when it's cold but turn into tiny missiles at 90 degrees, anyone else misread a quiet hive and pay for it?

Take that sting on the eyelid as a sign. It's funny how we do this with everything, not just bees. We see a quiet house and think the pipes are fine until the basement floods. We see a calm coworker and assume they're fine until they snap. Same with my car, it was running smooth so I skipped the oil change and now I'm out 800 bucks. Quiet never means safe, it just means the storm hasn't hit yet. You paid the price so the rest of us can learn from it.
