Took me 14 months to fix a ceiling stain I caused myself

I moved into this apartment in March 2022 and the first week I was here, I tried to hang a plant hook and hit a pipe. Small drip turned into a brown ring on the ceiling that kept getting bigger. I ignored it for a year. Then the landlord came for inspection and asked about it, and I finally admitted it was from the hook. He said no big deal, just patch and paint. But I spent 6 weekends trying to match the color and texture, bought three different paints, and in the end he had a guy come do it in 20 minutes with a roller. My question is, why do we let small problems balloon into bigger ones when the fix is usually way simpler than we think? Anyone else sit on a repair for months and then kick themselves when it took a pro no time at all?
