Took me till age 27 to realize I don't actually hate running

Growing up, every PE coach made us run laps for punishment. I thought I just hated running because it always felt like a chore. Then last summer I started jogging on this trail near the river by my apartment, no timer, no goal, just moving. Turns out I actually like it when there's nobody barking at me to go faster. Has anyone else found a hobby you hated as a kid is actually fun when you do it your own way?

betty_kelly9 nailed it, that's basically my whole childhood in a nutshell. Same exact thing happened to me with skateboarding, hated it when some older kid tried to teach me ollies but now I just cruise around the park at my own pace and it's actually chill.

Did you eventually find a specific trick or transition that clicked for you later on?

So you're telling me it took almost thirty years to figure out you don't hate running you just hate being told to do it. I mean that's basically every kid who ever had gym class. Glad you found a river trail though I guess.
