Warning: I picked the 40 mile commute over moving closer, and 2 years later here's the score
When the shop moved from the east side to a spot out past the airport in 2022, I had two choices. Move the family closer or eat the drive. I picked the drive, about 40 miles each way, because the rent near the new shop ran $400 more a month for less house. First month I timed it at 55 minutes on a good morning. Two years in, I've got a podcast queue that runs 3 hours deep and a truck with 71,000 extra miles on it, but my kid stayed in the same school and that mattered more. My back hates me some days but the math still works out ahead. Anyone else done the long haul commute on purpose, and did it wear you down or turn out fine?
