Warning: My core memory of a teacher's CRUEL joke in front of the class made me vow to NEVER embarrass anyone publicly.

That "core memory" phrase really hits home. I still cringe thinking about the time I tripped on stage in middle school. Made a rule to always laugh at myself first before anyone else can. Public embarrassment sticks with you forever, man.

Yeah that "laugh at yourself first" thing Keith900 mentioned is solid. I had a moment like that in high school choir when my solo mic caught feedback that sounded like a dying animal. Whole auditorium winced but I just grinned like an idiot and kept singing off-key. Forced laughter works better than freezing up. Still remember the exact burned-plastic smell of that old sound system.

Remembered tripping on my graduation gown and taking out three people.

Oof, spilled coffee on myself mid-presentation. Had to laugh it off!
