A client's reaction made me rethink my blow-dry technique

I had a client last month who told me my blowouts always left her ends feeling a bit dry and crunchy. At first I was defensive because I've been doing this for 12 years now. But she showed me how a stylist in Nashville had done it with lower heat and more tension on the section. I tried that approach on my next few clients and honestly the results were smoother and shinier. Now I keep my dryer on medium heat instead of high and focus on pulling the hair taut through the brush. Has anyone else found that changing one small step made a big difference in the final look?

Lower heat and more tension really does make a huge difference.

Read an article that said most people use way too much heat because they're rushing. Slowing down and using lower temps actually saves time since you don't have to redo sections.

Oh man, I totally get wanting to get defensive after that long doing hair... but then you try it and it's like well crap, she was right. I had a similar moment when a client told me my sectioning clips were leaving dents... switched to those little jaw clips and felt like an idiot for not trying it sooner. Sometimes the smallest tweaks make you wonder what else you've been doing wrong for years.
