Appreciation post: that gel nail kit I almost returned

I bought this cheap gel nail starter kit from a beauty supply shop in Phoenix about 4 months ago. I was sure it was gonna be a waste of $35. The brand was one I never heard of and the package looked kind of flimsy. But I tried it on one nail first to test it out. After curing it for 60 seconds, the color held up for two whole weeks without chipping. That convinced me to use it on my full set. Now I do my own gels at home and save around $50 each month. Has anyone else found a cheap brand that actually works better than the expensive stuff?

Oh wow, that's a solid find for $35. I mean, I've been burned before by cheap lamps that barely cured anything, so my question is - have you tried it with a thicker gel or builder gel yet? The thinner colors always seem to cure fine for me too, but when I try to do a structured overlay or like a clear base, my cheap lamp takes almost 90 seconds and still feels tacky. Curious if yours handles that or if you just stick to regular color coats.

Once knocked over a cheap lamp with my elbow and it still worked but took forever to cure clear gels after that.

Did you check if the lamp actually cures hard gel or just soft gel?
