Client yesterday told me her regular stylist never checked her scalp condition

She sits down in my chair in Portland and says 'no offense but I just need a trim'. Then she mentions her scalp has been itchy for 3 months. I parted her hair and saw red patches near her crown. How do you go that long without anyone looking? Has anyone else had clients shocked when you actually inspect their scalp before cutting?

Ugh, that's awful. It's like people go through life on autopilot and don't really stop to look at themselves... until someone else points out a problem that's been staring them in the face for months. Makes you wonder how many other things we all just miss in our own lives because we're too busy to check.

That third point about missing things hits close to home, I've been there too. My sister called me out last year for not noticing she was struggling with her job, and I felt terrible because it was so obvious once she said it. Makes you wonder what else we're walking past every day without a second glance.
